5 Airport Hotels That’ll Make You Want to Stay Longer Than Your Layover

, New York’s Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that JFK’s historic TWA Flight Center would be turned into a 505-room hotel complex. Other U.S. airports like Denver International, San Francisco International, and Baltimore-Washington International, among others, have announced plans for bigger, better on-site hotels as well. Things really seem to be looking up on the layover-delay-cancellation fronts.

If you happen to be traveling in the very near future, though, no need to fret about the wait for these upcoming projects. Currently, there are airport hotel options worldwide that offer amazing amenities and digs comparable to the four- and five-star options in town.

Here are five on-site hotels to ease your traveling woes, and maybe make you want to stay a day or two past your scheduled departure date.

CitizenM at the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris

This chic and modern boutique hotel is just a five-minute walk from Charles de Gaulle’s main terminals. Each room comes with a large king-size bed, free Wi-Fi and movies, rain showers, and a huge wall-to-wall window. There’s also a well-stocked canteen with lovely breakfast fare, and a laid-back bar and lounge area where lunch and dinner are served.

Crowne Plaza at the Changi Airport in Singapore

This lodging option is more Zen tropical resort than airport hotel, thanks to a beautifully landscaped pool area and courtyard gardens. The Changi Crowne Plaza also has a very spacious fitness center, as well as a spa with services like massages, facials, reflexology, therapy baths, and manicures and pedicures.

Sofitel London Heathrow

The Sofitel is connected to Heathrow’s Terminal 5 through a covered walkway, so guests of the luxury hotel can head in to enjoy shops like Alexander McQueen, Chanel, and Burberry. The hotel is equipped with large two- or three-bedroom suites that include small living areas and bathrooms outfitted in marble. It’s a far cry from the usual matchbox rooms offered at most on-site airport hotels, and you can even reserve a plush room just for the day.

Element Miami International Airport

If you happen to be particularly health-conscious or eco-friendly, this is the perfect airport hotel. Element is a certified green building with airy, open rooms. It offers well-balanced menu items at the restaurant and on the poolside dining menu, as well as in its pantry, which stocks fresh fruit and healthy snacks. There’s a 24-hour fitness center, and you can also borrow a bike to ride around the surrounding areas between flights.

Royal Park Hotel at Haneda International Airport tokyo

Royal Park Hotel at Haneda International Airport in Tokyo
It’s worth visiting this hotel just for the entrance: black marble floors and an entry wall made entirely of antique-looking suitcases. Guests can spend the night or just hang out in the short-term refresh rooms that feature showers, toiletry kits, slippers, free Wi-Fi access, and a TV.
